Baldwins aim is to maintain a high profile at the university and the main purpose of the award is to promote the area of intellectual property as a potential career path for law students.  This prize rewards excellence for an understanding of the impact of, and the way in which the law deals with new information technologies.

The 2008 prize went to Sabina MacIntyre.  “The Baldwins Law and Information Technology Prize was a lovely recognition of the hard work I put into the Law and Information Technology paper.  I would recommend the paper to any law student, namely because it highlights the challenging and dynamic role of information technologies both in New Zealand and overseas.

The Baldwins prize was a great motivating initiative to encourage me to excel in my work.  Not only was the generous prize money was very much appreciated, but the award really encouraged me to consider the exciting career opportunities available in Intellectual Property” says Sabina.

A previous award winner, Devaki Sharma, this year joined the team at Baldwins as a Law Clerk and is a valued member of the firm.

For Devaki the prize was a great recognition of the work she put in at university which stood her in great stead for a career in intellectual property.  Devaki comments “Baldwins has played a stellar role in motivating young law students to excel in this field. For me personally, it was inspiring to receive recognition for my hard work; moreover, receiving this prize cemented my desire to pursue the preservation of Intellectual Property rights globally. And of course, the prize money was very welcome!"
