Experience

Caryn has been a US patent specialist since 1999, working with New York law firms until she joined Baldwins in 2006. She is qualified as a US lawyer and patent attorney and is currently training for registration as a New Zealand patent attorney.

Caryn specialises in drafting and prosecution of patent specifications, providing patent validity and infringement advice, conducting due diligence and advising on intellectual property strategy and development. Caryn also provides strategies and submissions for opposition proceedings in New Zealand.

At Baldwins, Caryn has established an online system which allows her to file provisional patent applications and other documents directly into the secure online filing portal of the US Patent & Trademark Office. This provides a distinct advantage for New Zealand companies and inventors who are looking to file first in the US, and to capitalise on the US market.
