Duncan is an Associate in the mechanical and manufacturing team in our Auckland office. He specialises in patents, registered designs and copyright particularly for mechanical and manufacturing inventions.
He advises clients on the strategic protection of their intellectual property including filing strategies, patentability of inventions and enforcement matters both in New Zealand and overseas. He also handles patent and design applications through to grant and registration, which includes preparing examination responses.
Duncan also advises clients on the intellectual property of their competitors including infringement advice and due diligence.
Duncan’s industry experience comprises a range of technologies and their commercialisation namely aeronautical, building, cleantech, greentech, infrastructure, manufacturing, marine, medical devices, mining and mineral, packaging, recreational, sustainability, and transport.
Duncan has worked as an intellectual property specialist since 2000 both in private practices and as in-house IP counsel. This combination of experience brings a unique perspective and understanding of clients’ needs.
Prior to 2001 Duncan worked as an R&D thermal and mechanical design engineer for a multinational power electronics company.
His Masters thesis examined finite element method computer simulations and real world proof of continuous measurement apparatus for multiphase fluids.
