Jarrod completed his BScTech (Hons) at Victoria University of Wellington before moving to the United Kingdom in 2002 where he worked for a well known provider of integrated drug discovery services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, focusing on high throughput chemistry and library synthesis of novel compounds.  He embarked on a Ph.D. at the University of Auckland  in 2004 with a research project directed towards the synthesis of Huperzine A and commenced with Baldwins in 2007.

Expertise

During his studies, Jarrod focussed on radical cyclisations utilising picoline radicals derived from pyridylmethyl phenylselenides as well as some research into charge transfer complexes from functionalised cycloproparenes. His work in the United Kingdom involved multi-step and scale-up syntheses of cinnoline and quinoline pharmaceutical drug candidates and structure activity relationship studies of the resulting positive candidates.

Additional Experience

Jarrod has worked in private industry research in both the UK and New Zealand, in the fields of organic, bio-organic and process chemistry as well as technology and project management.  He commenced as a Patent Executive with Baldwins in 2007.
