Julie joined Baldwins in 1985.  She initially spent three years in the firm’s Auckland office where she gained broad experience in both patent and trade mark work.  Since then, Julie has worked in the Wellington office, where she has concentrated on all aspects of patent work, particularly in the chemical and pharmaceutical areas.

Julie is head of the firm's Wellington based patent teams, and served as president of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys in 2004 and 2005.

During her time on the Council of the NZIPA, Julie was involved in the preparation of submissions on a number of pieces of legislation, including the Patents Bill (exposure draft), the Lawyers and Conveyancers Bill (now enacted) and the Evidence Bill (now enacted). She has a special interest in issues relating to the patent attorney profession.

In 2006, Julie was appointed to the Australian Professional Standards Board for Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys.
