Baldwins, together with Ernst & Young and the Stamford Plaza Hotel hosted over 200 guests drawn from business, commercial, government and the creative fields at a celebration to mark World Intellectual Property Day on 26th April 2007. This event, the first of its kind in New Zealand, brought together business leaders to highlight and discuss topical innovation issues in New Zealand and internationally.
In an informal environment our three invited guest speakers Ken Stevens, Mark Backhaus and Craig Horrocks were presented with high level questions focussing on the importance of innovation to our future both as a country, in business and to each of us in our daily work and leisure pursuits. We would like to acknowledge Wes Jones of Baldwins and Colin De Freyne of Ernst & Young for their thought leadership during these discussions.
Philip Thoreau, Baldwins partner and moderator of this inaugural event summarised the critical role intellectual property has in our daily lives, the opportunities it creates in business as a basis for wealth creation both locally and internationally.
Each year, on World Intellectual Property Day, Baldwins will host a celebration similar to this one as part of our commitment to enforcing the importance of intellectual property to society.
The level of audience interest meant time expired before we could discuss all questions fully. Baldwins have now opened this discussion up on line in a blog format and we welcome your comments on these questions or related intellectual property issues and the innovation climate in NZ.
