What can be protected by a registered design?
Most countries will register a design for features of appearance such as shape and configuration (three dimensional designs) or pattern and ornament (two dimensional designs) that are new and original. What is new and original is compared against publications, including those on the internet, and uses made before the registered design is filed.
The earlier publication or use includes your own publications or uses made before you apply for a registered design. This is why it is critical to seek the advice of an intellectual property specialist and apply for a registered design before you show or use the design.
