Will a New Zealand or Australian patent protect my invention overseas?

No, a New Zealand or Australian patent will only protect your invention in New Zealand or Australia respectively. Patents are territorial rights and therefore for each country you would like protection in, you will need to apply for patent protection with that country’s national patent office.  This does not mean you have to protect your invention in every country in the world.  Typically you choose the country or countries that constitute your main consumer and/or manufacturing regions.
