Avertana & Data Insight named winners at UABS Entrepreneurs Challenge 2015

Wednesday 18th November 2015

NZ start-up companies Avertana and Data Insight have triumphed as winners of the 2015 UABS Entrepreneurs Challenge held at the University of Auckland Business School yesterday evening.

The two companies impressed the judges with their leadership, innovation, governance and global commercial potential.  They receive access to $1m capital, mentoring from successful entrepreneurs and investors, and the widespread publicity and recognition that goes with the award.

Baldwins’ client Avertana has developed patented technology for turning low-value industrial residue into valuable minerals in an environmentally sustainable way. They make bulk industrial commodities through a combination of inorganic chemistry, advanced materials and biotechnology.  The commodities have uses ranging from paints and plastics to wallboards and fertilisers. As well as satisfying a need for valuable commodities for the global market, Avertana’s process has minimal environmental impact including:

-       zero raw materials mining,

-       zero carbon in core process chemistry; and

-       zero waste - all material flows are either recycled or end up as products.

Data Insight’s win was based on the success of its core product Valocity - a property valuation and information system.  Valocity supports NZ banks in their mortgage lending decisions by combining data and advanced analytics.

Baldwins are proud to be associated with Avertana and wish them all the best in their commercial and environmental endeavours.
